SPP 426

Author: Richard Rose

Description: The April, 2007 nationwide NRB survey inventories the state of Russian public opinion as Vladimir Putin's second term as president approaches its limit. Because the questionnaire incorporates trend indicators asked in NRB surveys for more than decade, the statements made about political, economic and social conditions in 2007 can be compared with replies in eight previous NRB surveys undertaken since Putin became President. This SPP paper gives the results for all questions asked. In addition, responses are reported for three age groups--young, middle age and older Russians shows and results show a high level of support for the current regime, which Russians realistically view as giving them greater freedom than the Soviet system but halfway between a democracy and a dictatorship.
