Korea Democracy Barometer
The Republic of Korea is a major Asian example of abrupt change from an authoritarian to a democratic regime. The KDB questionnaire includes many items used in the New Europe Barometer surveys, permitting comparison across continents. It also has questions about the economic crisis that have hit the country since late 1997, Korean re-unification and a repertoire of Doh Shin's questions about commitment to democratic ideals. To date, the CSPP has cooperated in three Korea Barometer surveys: 1997, 1998 and 1999.
Doh Chull Shin holds the endowed chair in Korean Politics at the University of Missouri, Columbia. He is a native of Korea and the author of Mass Politics and Culture in Democratizing Korea (Cambridge University Press, 1999). He began conducting national surveys in Korea in 1988.
