Author: Richard Rose

Description: The tenth nationwide New Russia Barometer (NRB) survey concentrates on how Russians view their lives and their country 18 months after Vladimir Putin became president. Changes in national leaders do not necessarily produce changes outside the Moscow ring roads. This NRB survey asks many questions included in previous New Russia Barometer surveys about attitudes toward democratic and undemocratic systems of government, the presence or absence of the rule of law and corruption, economic conditions and social conditions. There are also questions covering specific features of the Putin presidency, expectations of future achievements and risks, national security concerns in Chechnya, other CIS states, East Central Europe, the European Union and NATO. To monitor the extent to which younger and older Russians differ in their views of state, society and the world around them, replies to all questions are reported by age groups.
